Ann Thomas | Special to the 51°µÍø
Welcome to your new Jasper Seniors Society 51°µÍø column, which will appear every two weeks courtesy of the 51°µÍø.
We have a new executive to introduce. Janis Marks is president, Betsy DeClercq is vice president, Glenda Cornforth is past president, Mary Wilson is secretary, Lois Journault is treasurer and Ann Thomas is communications. Our directors remain Avice Heckley and Mildred Hughes.
Anyone over 55 years of age can join the society for a nominal $10 fee and receive newsletters and invitations to various planned outings and functions throughout the year. The objectives of the society, in part, are to promote the interests of seniors as well as to co-ordinate the services available to seniors in the community. The society manages and maintains a Seniors’ Lounge in the Activity Centre where our monthly meetings take place on the second Monday of each month. We hope to have guest speakers in the coming months.
Your new executive is coordinating with Community Outreach Services for the betterment of all Jasper seniors. We are pleased to announce that through this partnership we have obtained a free shuttle service to all Community Dinners at the Activity Centre, which take place each Sunday until the end of March. If you wish to be picked up by the Alpine Traveler Bus, please call or text to reserve your seat at 780-931-9800. Deadline for seat reservations is noon on the Saturday before.
We hope you will follow this column and join us at our next meeting which is Monday, Feb. 13 at 1:30 p.m. All seniors are welcome to attend and see what we are about. You can then decide if membership will be a benefit to you.
If you have any ideas or wish to voice any concerns, please feel free to contact Janis Marks at 780-852-3973 or email to [email protected]. We want to hear from you as to how we can make everyday living better for seniors in Jasper.
Ann Thomas serves on the executive for the Jasper Seniors Society.
