The U15 Bearcats' season has come to an abrupt halt. And let me explain why.

Back at the beginning of the hockey season, six Bearcats (along with their classmates) were offered an opportunity to participate in a student exchange program at school. The idea of travelling to Quebec in the new year was exciting, and so they signed on the dotted line.

A little later in the season, the dates of the exchange were announced, and alarms went off in the Bearcats heads. PLAYOFFS. But with hopes that it would all somehow work out, the Bearcats played on.

Fast forward to last weekend. While six Bearcats (including the only goalie) were settling into their host families' Quebec homes, the remaining seven players (minus one player who was serving a suspension) played the first playoff game of the postseason. For the details of that game, see last week's 51°µÍø.

The Bearcats who were in Quebec were scheduled to be home this past Saturday night, which was perfect timing to have the whole team back again for the two scheduled playoff games on Sunday. But that didn't happen. Instead, Saturday's flight was cancelled by the airline and rescheduled for Sunday.

The players wouldn't make it back on time for either of Sundays games, and therefore the Bearcats would have to forfeit. The rules of the league are that if any team forfeits in playoffs, then they are automatically disqualified from playing the remainder of their playoff games.

The Jasper Bearcats would like to thank all of their supporters throughout the 2022-23 season. Special thanks to team manager Ambur Doyle, head coach Alex Derksen, assistant coaches David Miller, Royd Irwin, Donovan Fawcett and Jim Campbell.
