Word for the Library: The answer to your late summer travel dreams

As a librarian responsible for the book inventory, I have the interesting and entertaining task of reading advertisements for older and new books, as possible additions for our local book collection.

As a librarian responsible for the book inventory, I have the interesting and entertaining task of reading advertisements for older and new books, as possible additions for our local book collection.

Recently a really funky newsletter regarding interesting travel books ended up in our email inbox. It warned me right away in its subject line that reading these books could elicit acute travel FOMO (fear of missing out). I can attest that while reading only the teasers of these books the warning was justified. What helped and what I can provide here with only a link to certain webpages was their pairing of the books with very dreamy and/or luxurious hotels, which are travel destinations in which you could experience the flair of these books. So here is a selection of books to dream for:

Red, White & Royal Blue, a delightful romantic comedy from author Casey McQuiston

郭棗紳餃棗紳s provides the kind of stay youd be likely to find for a (fictional) clandestine affair between a member of the British royal family and the son of a U.S. president.泭

Tokyo Ever After, Emiko Jeans New York Times bestseller,泭

is an enjoyable young adult book about a young Japanese-American girl, Izumi Tanaka, who suddenly discovers that her father is royalty. Any aspiring royals in your family will likely want to stay at the

Akwaeke Emezis You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty

is a passionate and heartfelt romance novel. It is praised by The New York Times as an unabashed ode to living with, and despite, pain and mortality. Part of the plot is set on a tropical island in a glamorous island retreat. in Antigua and Barbuda has just the same feel to it.泭

Now - big sigh - back here in Jaspers library we are getting ready for the new school year. And hey, yes, there are exciting events waiting for you here too:泭

  • Alberta Culture Days are upon us and the library will host an international Storytime with book readings in several different languages on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 10:30 a.m. Many more exciting activities will take place the same day run by our partners here in the Library and Cultural Centre building.泭
  • From The Stacks, our programming for seniors, will start up again on Sept., 21 at 1:30 p.m. in the librarys reading room.
  • Heads up for our Book Lovers weekend in October. A regional book author is already booked for a presentation, and we have a pop-up comic bookstore lined up in the building. Please watch for more information to come.
  • Last but not least, with the upcoming school year we will also have exciting activities for our school kids young and old. We are working on details, so keep an eye open for more information to come.
