Jasper Municipal Library staff
Jan. 14 was Czech Storytime, and once a month, we have volunteers coming in to read for Storytime in a different language. Feb. 11 at 10:30 will be a Mexican Storytime, and don’t miss Shelia’s Storytime on all the other Saturdays. For parents and caregivers watching little ones during the week, visit the library Tuesdays at 10:30 and “Let Them Play.” We will set out toys and activities for ages 0-5 in an inviting space for you to catch up with others and give you the chance to enjoy your tea/coffee while it is still hot.
So far, we have enjoyed learning how to crochet/knit and code robot cars after school for Tuesday Tween Takeover. Next Tuesday, we will learn watercolours, then science experiments, scrapbooking and whatever else the tweens request to try!
Adults and seniors have had plenty of options for learning and socializing too. Every Wednesday, “Knit Happens” at 10:30 by the fireplace in the reading room as a lively group of knitters, crocheters and stitchers work and chat about their current projects.
Every other Thursday, with the next one on Feb. 16, Linda reads “From the Stacks.” We provide a selection of snacks and beverages while you listen and engage in thoughtful conversations with other attendees.
On Jan. 19, Jennifer Ottaway shared her knowledge of binding art and stories after her presentation she gave participants paper and the use of her watercolours to make their own storybook. We also hosted an author presentation for Kelly James Frank’s new book “To the Moon Investing: Visually Mapping Your Winning Stock Market Portfolio.”
Elysion Florals is coming to the library to do a demonstration on “Bouquet Basics,” and you will walk away with the knowledge and confidence to create your own beautiful bouquets.
Keep an eye out for posters in the library, on our social media and on the Jasper community calendar for more upcoming events. Hint – fishing and gardening season is on the horizon!
The library is a community hub that offers more than our programming to all ages. Come in and visit our beautiful space and stay awhile putting together our community puzzle, playing a board game with friends, studying or using the free access to computers and Wi-Fi we offer.
Wait, aren’t libraries just about books? No, but we do have a lot of them and put plenty of thought into timely book displays. Did you know you also have access to books, DVDs, CDs and video games from all the libraries across Alberta? It’s free to use our interlibrary loan service, and items are delivered once a week.
Drop by and chat with the library staff to see how we can support your 2023 literacy or self-development goals!
