It is an unbelievably gorgeous, sunny afternoon.

June 25 Ski Marmot Basin held an open house in Jasper to show off the details of its long-range plan. Attendance was sparse, with Marmot representatives outnumbering curious Jasperites the whole night.

Despite a mishap that destroyed the town’s first order of bedding plants—(the semi transporting them rolled over on the highway)—Jasper is nearly in full bloom.

It’s startling how much trash lines our highways. In fact, we could hardly believe it when the town’s Environmental Stewardship Coordinator said 2.89 tonnes of garbage was picked up during the annual litter cleanup, June 5.

With spring comes rejuvenation. The sunshine is warm, the days are long, our energy levels are up and we’re enthusiastic to get outside. Nature is calling and we’re intent to answer.

A zombie confinement area, a greenhouse, a roller paintball arena, a Japanese garden, an outdoor skating rink, a make-shift Spirit Island or a 4,000 km pit to the centre of the Earth.

Housing is an age old issue in Jasper.

It’s no secret that Jasper’s caribou are in dire straits.

Jasper is often marketed as a place to unplug—a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and to reconnect with nature. It’s sold as a place to get back to basic.

The temporary foreign worker program is flawed. There’s just no denying it. People, Canadian and otherwise, are being abused.
