The Jasper wildfire currently ranks number nine in Canada's top 10 natural disasters for insurance payouts, according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC).

The road to recovery is starting to clear for businesses in Jasper, Alta., a month after some 25,000 visitors and residents were forced to flee a raging wildfire.

While the highway is open to all traffic as of Friday, Valemount business owners said the roughly three-week long closure drastically lowered their number of customers.

CN had suspended operations for several days following the initial evacuation on July 22 but was able to resume rail traffic after inspecting infrastructure and consulting Parks Canada.

Subject to approvals by Parks Canada, the transaction is expected to close in July.
